Hello everyone!
I just joined this group and I hope that you can help me. I have a Compaq CQ5600F that has an AMD Athlon II 170u processor in it and it's driving me crazy at how slow it is! Honestly, if I had known about the AMD processors, I would have never gotten this computer, but the price was right for me at the time. Anyways, I was seriously considering upgrading the processor. When I checked on the HP website, it says that the motherboard will only accommodate the following processors:
AMD Phenom II Quad Core
AMD Phenom II Triple Core
AMD Phenom Quad Core (A) 9xxx series (AM 2+)
AMD Phenom Triple Core (T) 8xxx series (AM 2+)
AMD Athlon X4
AMD Athlon X3
AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM 2+)
I was wondering: which of these processors is considered the fastest? I use my computer for the usual: email, word processing, Facebook, etc., but I am a die-hard multitasker. I like (need) to have the radio playing and several programs (MS Word, Firefox, and Opera are my usual suspects to be open at the same time) open at the same time. Of course, the system I have now is woefully unable to do this. :(
I'm not sure if the motherboard can handle an Intel processor; the HP website said only AMD processors will work.
Which processor would you recommend? I am not able to replace the motherboard to switch to an Intel at the moment, but I really need to upgrade my computer as soon as possible.
My system is running Windows 7 Home and it has 2 GB RAM, the processor is 2.00 GHz. I hope that someone here can help me. I've been out of the loop with all the computer advances lately, so things that I'm finding online is just confusing me. lol
Thanks in advance!
Carolyn
